Caridina longirostris .
The North Qld Algae Shrimp is an active freshwater species prized for its strong appetite for algae and biofilm, making it a practical and attractive addition to planted aquariums. It features a slim, translucent body with subtle lines or speckling, helping it blend naturally into the aquascape. Peaceful by nature, it spends most of its time grazing on surfaces such as plants, rocks, driftwood, and aquarium glass.
These shrimp remain quite small, typically reaching 1–2 cm, which makes them well suited to smaller tanks. While they tend to avoid blue-green algae and green spot algae, they have been known to consume black beard algae when other food sources are limited. Overall, they are regarded as one of the best all-round algae-eating clean-up crew species available.
Size: approximately 1–1.5 cm
